SNIP-AFRICA Governance
SNIP-AFRICA is establishing a strong, sustainable management and governance framework that provides appropriate oversight of ongoing and future research activities and secures the platform’s long-term operation beyond the current project. The goal is to strengthen research quality and coordination and support the delivery of high-impact evidence to improve the management of neonatal infections in sub-Saharan Africa.
To achieve this, the platform develops standardised core protocols with adaptable templates and establishes transparent processes to strengthen existing studies and incorporate new ones. It also implements a unified, future-ready data management system to ensure secure, ethical and high-quality research across the platform.
The SNIP-AFRICA platform in brief:
More about the platform:
Current domains and studies
- Surveillance domain: Surveillance study
- Complex adaptive drug regimen trial domain: NeoSep1 study
- Dose-optimising domain: PRECISION study
- Future studies: NeoSep Long-Term Follow Up 1 (NeoSep LTFU-1)
SNIP-AFRICA Platform Development Group
The SNIP-AFRICA Platform Development Group (PDG) acts as the overarching body developing a strategy for sustainment and development of the platform in response to evolving research priorities.
The PDG plays a critical role in executing the platform’s overall research vision, goals and priorities, and in ensuring alignment with public health priorities and other relevant initiatives in Africa and globally. One key responsibility is to discuss emerging and urgent research gaps, taking into account responses from related actions, in order to identify critical modifications, extensions, or other adaptations to the platform infrastructure and activities.
The PDG consists of independent experts and stakeholders, and representatives of SNIP-AFRICA partner institutions.
The core scope of the SNIP-AFRICA PDG is to provide input on:
- Efficiency: to ensure collaboration between domains and platform activities to reduce workload, share resources and to strengthen relationships between partners and contributors
- Alignment: to manage alignment between domains and activities to ensure data collected is synergetic to the overall objectives of the platform
- New research questions: to encourage discussion and implementation of potential new domains and activities on the platform
- Platform development: to evaluate the future of the platform by assessing new and future advancements in the field, changes in regulations and innovative study designs and methodologies for implementation
- Advisory: to provide expert advice and suggestions on issues raised by CIs, Sponsors and other researchers active on the platform
- Training: to identify training needs throughout the life-cycle of the platform activities and provide opportunities to research teams for advancement.
